How to Pipe a Snail Trail or Tiny Plain Shells with Royal Icing

Hold the bag at a 45 degree angle and touch the cake surface whilst squeezing to create a small ball of paste, then pull the bag slightly to create a small tail of icing.

Leave a tiny gap then pipe the next dot, squeezing until the ball of icing meets the previous ball and repeat to create the required border.

Use a slightly damp paintbrush to soften and disguise any joints.
